How does Sapience work? What is a ForeverCopy?
A: We believe that great music should be easily available to anyone around the world for affordable prices. We keep our overhead low so you can enjoy our music without breaking the budget. When you're ready to buy one of our pieces, you buy a license for a certain number of copies based on your choir's size(we have faith in the honesty and benevolence of you, the choral musician). We send you a ForeverCopy of the music that is personalized to your group along with a license giving you permission to copy the purchased amount of music. A ForeverCopy is different from traditionally-published music in that you can re-copy a lost or damaged score. If you buy a license for 40 copies, you will always have 40 copies!

What is the best way to print and copy your scores?
A: If ease of viewing is important, you can print one page per side of a sheet of paper. Many printers make this easy by giving you an option to print even pages only or print odd pages only. Print even pages first, place those back in the printer feed tray (make sure they will go through correctly), and then print the odd pages. Yields 2 pages of music per 1 sheet of paper.

If you would like to save even more paper, you may print the music with 2 pages per side. To do this, change the printer's layout to landscape. Then, set the printer to 2 pages per side. Then, print pages 1-2, 5-6, 9-10 (etc.). This will take 1 printed page per two pages of music. Finally, place those pages back in and print pages 3-4, 7-8, 11-12 (etc.). Yields 4 pages of music per 1 sheet of paper.

Am I really saving money buying e-published music?
A: Yes. Assuming an average cost of 1 cent per sheet of paper and 4 cents per printed page, copying an average e-published score costs 12 to 18 cents per copy (using the 2 pages per side method). Even with the "easy viewing" scores, average cost is only 27 to 54 cents per piece. For higher-end and high efficiency copiers, the price decreases. Therefore, when you combine our licensing cost with your reproduction costs, the total price per copy of music is between 42 cents and $1.54. The average price of a traditionally-published octavo is $1.50 per copy.

See our Pricing page for more information on buying rights to our scores. The more copies you need, the more affordable our music is!

Are there other benefits to e-publishing?
A: A few, in fact. First of all, it is better for the environment. Instead of in airplanes, trucks, and cars, e-published pieces are delivered over the internet. Secondly, they offer flexibility. If you suddenly experience an influx of singers into your choir, you can easily copy more scores (and buy rights to copy more scores if that amount of scores takes you into a new pricing bracket). Moreover, if you ever lose scores, just copy new ones! Unlike traditionally-published music, this is completely legal. We understand that the future of the music publishing industry, the musical profession, and intellectual property rights relies on a mutual trust and respect between publishers, composers, and consumers. Finally, Sapience offers you free practice tracks for many of the works you buy. These tracks are in mp3 format and can easily be transferred to CD. For every voice part, you will recieve a track with any accompaniment plus a singer actually singing that part.

How can I pay for the music?
A: You can pay using any major credit card, through a Paypal account, or via check. Your personalized, licensed music will be sent to you within 24 hours of reciept of payment.

Can I give my scores to another church or school to copy?
A: Unfortunately, no. Our scores are personally licensed to your specific organization. Licenses are non-transferrable. Remember that your license allows you to have that number of copies forever. If copies are lost or damaged, you can simply print more. It's also part of our mission to make music more affordable. If people illegally copy our scores, it hinders that objective.

Some of my students did a Sapience piece at a festival. Can we copy it for our students?
A: Yes and no. We make special deals with festivals, licensing them hundreds of copies of a piece for a very low price. If you have enjoyed one of our pieces at a festival, contact us and we will offer you a reduced price to get your personalized license and ForeverCopy of the score.
